How Can I Reduce My Accent…
and sound more like a native speaker?
It feels awkward to speak a foreign language when we know we don’t pronounce the words quite right. Who wouldn’t want to know an easy way to reduce their accent? Native speakers learned the sounds of their first language(s) as children, and some people seem to have gift for languages. But, the truth is, it is possible for anyone. We just have to learn how to learn again!
More and more often I hear about the neurolingual methods of learning languages. So, I looked into them. The people who teach this method have understood something that most language schools don’t. If they do know, they may not want you to know that they know!
There are indeed very few schools with language trainers who promote brain-friendly, natural language learning, because there are so few who understand it. The conventional methods of drilling grammar and vocabulary have dominated the language teaching scene for so long, that it seems to be “normal”. Well, normal is not necessarily natural, nor is it better!
So, how does it work? Well, I could write you a long explanation of natural language acquisition right here in this post… Or I can send you to some other people who can show and tell you: Neurolingual(dot)com.
The people at neurolingual(dot)com are using the knowledge of natural childhood language acquistion that has been researched for decades to help people absorb language while listening to the sounds in a relaxed state of mind. And, that right there is the key! Your mind must be relaxed!

I know, it sounds too good to be true, but there is that one catch: In order for this method to work, you need to learn to relax. And relaxing is something that a lot of people have forgotten how to do. The good news is, you can easily re-learn how to relax! Once you have re-trained this, you’ll have it far easier.
There, now you can learn all about this method and “work” on reducing your accent while you relax. It might be easy, but it doesn’t happen overnight. You’ll have to give your brain time. It takes time to adjust to sounds, to internalize patterns of individual sounds (also called phonemes), melody of language and grammar
By the way, this version of relaxed, brain-friendly, natural language acquisition is for American English. I’ll keep an eye out for British or other varieties and keep you posted on any new discoveries!
Oh, and don’t forget! Here is where our conversation continues. So once you’re ready to talk to someone, come on back and we’ll get back to talking about nature and sustainability! See you then!
